Heavy Rain with More to Come

As morning turns to afternoon, there has already been a lot of rain in the state this morning. Rainfall amounts of 1-2 inches of rain has been common over the eastern half of the state, with some locations recieving more and others less. There is still a slight risk of severe weather for later this afternoon and tonight for areas now mainly north of Iowa Hwy 2 (almost the entire state except extreme southern Iowa). Large Hail, Damaging Winds and isolated tornadoes will be possible. The threat will shift to Damaging winds with a secondary large hail threat this evening and overnight with a possible MCS moving through the northern part of the state along and north of the advancing warm front. A tornado cannot be ruled out, but is unlikely after sunset. There is a slight risk of severe weather on Saturday mainly north of US Hwy 30 and another risk Sunday for most of the state along a cold front that is expected to move in later in the afternoon hours. More on that severe weather episode this weekend. Along with the strong to severe thunderstorms will be more heavy rain. With the amount of rain already fallen across the state, there could be some localized flooding in the poorly drained locations. River flooding is not antcipated at this time.
