The Storm Prediction Center has outlooked a slight risk of severe weather for Monday afternoon and evening for areas south of a line from Omaha to Waterloo to Dubuque. The main threats will likely be large hail and damaging winds, however a tornado or two will also be possible, but this will be favored in extreme southern Iowa into northern Missouri. A cold front is expected to move into the state tonight with showers and thunderstorms along it. Depending on where the thunderstorms go and how long they stick around early on Monday will be dependent on whether severe weather will develop in the outlooked area later in the afternoon. In any case decent amounts of rain will be likely with this system with some locations possibly getting upwards of an inch of rain, however most locations will likely see 1/2 inch or less depending on where the thunderstorms go. None of the storms later tonight into early Monday are expected to be severe in the state.

Later next week, the first “heat wave” will begin with temperatures rising into the upper 80s and low to mid 90s. Summer will be returning in earnest at that time, until then temperatures will remain at or below average for most of the state however a few locations in the western half of Iowa are already above the seasonal average high for today.
