Lots of Action

NOTE: The Post was written at 11:15am offline, and could not be posted until 12:30pm

Numerous showers and heavy thunderstorms have continued moving across the state this morning. Numerous storms were severe and warnings were issued for them. One squall line moved through the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area around 4am this morning bringing down trees and power lines in that area. Along with the high winds and hail was a lot of heavy rain. Many locations received over 2 inches of rain from this complex, with a few locations receiving over 3 inches. This has led to localized flooding across the area. Currently as we head into the Midday hour (when this post was being written offline), showers and heavy thunderstorms continued in the eastern and southeastern portions of the state. The heaviest of the storms was from near Cedar Rapids to Marengo to Ottumwa. These storms were moving off to the east and southeast at around 25-30 mph. There is some clearing behind these storms which could aid in more redevelopment of the thunderstorms this afternoon and this evening along an advancing cold front. All modes of severe weather will be likely with any storms that can fire in the afternoon and evening. Heavy rain is also a possibility, and given the heavy amounts of rain that has already occurred, even a half inch of rain may cause localized flooding once more, especially in areas north of US Hwy 20, where the heaviest rain fell earlier this morning.

The weekend looks much calmer and drier, with high temperatures in the upper 70s to the mid 80s statewide, but it will be the reduction of humidity that will be noticed more.
