Very heavy rain and strong thunderstorms with Very High Rainfall totals in Burnett County last night

Rainfall Total Estimate from GR level 3 radar.

We had quite a range of extremes when it comes to rainfall totals across the local area. ranging from very heavy amounts to very little. A Large portion of Burnett and Washburn counties, and even the far northern part of Polk County picked up some extremely heavy rainfall totals last night, radar suggests at least 4 inches! may have fell in areas northeast of Grantsburg. A very moist air mass with dew points in the 70s, and a line of training thunderstorms moved though in the very early morning hours, as I was watching the radar, the storms formed along a trough, and literally did not move in any direction, they stayed parked over Burnett County for quite a long time, producing hail and frequent lightning, and torrential downpours. The NWS even had issued severe severe warnings for possible hail many times through-out the night, but no reports of hail or wind damage came in If you were in the Siren-Grantsburg area last night, you probably had trouble sleeping!

On the other had, there was quite a sharp cut off in the high rainfall totals areas, areas south of Burnett and Washburn counties barely has anything, most spots barely picked up a quarter inch of rain! including at my location where I had a total of 0.18″ from light thunderstorms.

Some rainfall totals below

Siren 2.20″

Grantsburg 1.83″

Minong 1.79″

Spooner 0.67″
