Drought Easing Rains!

2 day Radar Estimate from the NWS in the Twin Cities.

Rains were abundant across the area this weekend and in some cases it was heavy and came in torrienal downpours. These rains really helped but a dent in area deficits and ease drought conditions that started back in August of last year. Every part of the area was touched by at least some rain this weekend, and in some extreme cases as much as 4″ have fallen, which is extremely good news for areas that were under severe drought status for the past few months. It will be interesting to see what the new drought monitor looks like on Thursday of this week!

Lush green trees and grass May 6th 2012

Plentiful moisture has returned to the soils of Southern Minnesota, all the foliage in yards and on trees is lush green and everything seemed to get a boast from the rain. Here in Downtown Rochester we’ve received 2.65″ of rain since the 1st of the month. This week was the rainiest week since I moved here last August. Hopefully we can continue to stay in a wetter pattern through the summer to bring lake and river levels up some!
