RAINY WEEKEND: A storm system will move into the state this weekend bringing several rounds of showers and thunderstorms to the state. Skies will be partly sunny to mostly cloudy to start. We could see some morning showers and or storms, but none of those are expected to be strong at this time. Some of the storms may become severe later in the afternoon and into the evening with large hail and damaging straight line winds being the main threats. This rain will last into Sunday as the front stalls to our south and southeast. We could easily see 1-2” of rain possible in the southern through the eastern counties of the state after all is said and done early Monday morning. Some of the precipitation may change over to a rain snow mix or all snow before ending. Any accumulations are expected to be light at this point and should not cause any issues given the amount of rain that is expected prior to the possible change over to a wintry mix or all snow. Highs today will be in the 60s and 70s across the state, with Sunday seeing the readings from the 40s in NW Iowa to the middle 60s in the southeast. Stay tuned for any changes with this system on the website.
WHERE DID SPRING GO?: Monday and Tuesday will be much cooler across the state with readings in the 40s and 50s both days. Monday will see more clouds around with the system departing the region with some slow clearing in the afternoon. Tuesday will be bright and sunny with readings a few degrees warmer at that time. The winds will also be switching around to the southwest during the afternoon hours.
THROUGH THE END OF THE WEEK: The next storm will be approaching toward the middle of next week. A warm front will be situated just to the north of the state. This may bring some rain showers across MN and WI with perhaps some grazing the far northern counties of the state. Highs on Wednesday will be from near 50 northeast to the lower 60s in the southern counties of the state. The next system will come in late Thursday night into Friday with some showers and thunderstorms. It’s too early to determine any chances of severe weather but we’ll see if this changes in the coming days.
EXTENDED PERIOD: The extended period on this run is showing a fairly active pattern toward the end of the month with several storm systems moving through the state at that time. Readings at this time look to remain near seasonal levels but that does not mean we still can’t have a frost or a freeze. Still do not see any trends developing as yet regarding this time period but we’ll keep monitoring for any changes.
