Red Flag Warning for the Entire State This Afternoon

869

All of the NWS Offices that cover Iowa have issued Red Flag Warnings this afternoon through early this evening due to the strong winds we will be seeing later on today along with the low relative humidity which will lead to an heightened fire danger across the state. A lot of the grasses across the state are cured. This means they are either dead or more than likely still dormant after the long cold winter we’ve had across the state. This along with any spark and igniting source could lead to rapid fire growth. Do not throw cigarette butts out of your car as this may ignite said grasses and lead to dangerous out of control wildfires. Do not burn any ditches today as well. Several counties have burn bans in effect which include Pottawattamie, Mills, Montgomery, Fremont, Page, Marion, Appanoose and Jackson. More counties could be added later today.
