SNOW AND COLD: A disturbance will be moving through the state today bringing with it some light snow and flurry activity. The models have really trended downward on the moisture that is available with this system so amounts are likely going to be an inch or two at most across the state. Many areas may only see a dusting. There won’t be any major travel issues regarding this system as the only areas that may see any accumulation would be elevated surfaces and grass. Be aware of bridges and overpasses however if you will be out and about today. Highs today will be in the 30s. Colder air moves in for Tuesday with the sunshine returning as well. Highs will be in the 20s to lower and middle 30s across the state.
THE NEXT SYSTEM: The winds will be back out of the south and southwest on Wednesday bringing warmer weather to the state as well. Readings in the 30s, 40s and even 50s will be possible from northeast to southwest. There will be plenty of sunshine around with a noticeable increase in the clouds by later in the day ahead of the next storm system that will be approaching from the west. This will be moving through on Thursday with some showers and possibly even a thunderstorm. Amounts of around a half inch are possible with some areas seeing more than that, especially in any thunderstorms. Highs in the 40s and 50s will be possible even with the cloudiness and chance of rain. Some of the precipitation may transition to a wintry mix late Thursday night and Friday morning in the eastern counties. We will keep watch on that in the coming days. The GFS is also showing some precipitation for most of the day on Friday with a separate disturbance. This may bring some rain as well across the state. Readings will be in the upper 30s north through the 40s south.
WEEKEND INTO APRIL: The winds will come back around to the south on Saturday, so it looks like the 40s, 50s and perhaps even some 60s are possible once again with plenty of sunshine around. Sunday will see a few more clouds around especially in our northern counties with a frontal system over Minnesota and Wisconsin that could bring some precipitation up there. This may sag into the far northern counties of the state late Sunday night into Monday. Highs on Sunday will be similar to Saturday with upper 40s north to lower and middle 60s south and southwest. Going into the extended period, the next storm will be upon us next Monday through possibly Wednesday with some showers and perhaps a thunderstorm as well. We’ll watch that in the coming days as well for any continued trends. The GFS also continues to show a few more systems that may affect the state through the first week of April, but we’ll get into that more when the time comes.
