MORE WINTER ON THE WAY: Saturday is going to bring us some changes in the weather across the state. It is also going to bring some varying temperatures as well. Highs today will range from the middle 30s across the northern counties of the state to the lower and middle 60s in the south. Yes I kid you not. Some rain snow mix will likely develop across our northern counties during the afternoon hours and will slowly move south during the overnight. This will change to all snow for most areas along and north of Interstate 80 with rain changing to a wintry mix and ending as snow early Sunday morning in the southern counties. Some accumulations are possible but are not likely to exceed two inches in any one given area. We could see some travel issues especially on bridges and overpasses but otherwise you should be able to get around if you use common sense. Highs on Sunday as the storm begins to depart the region will be in the 20s and 30s across the state.
GREEN WITH ENVY: It will be partly to mostly sunny for St. Patrick’s Day on Monday with readings rebounding into the 30s and 40s across the state. Another system moves in Tuesday into early Wednesday which may bring some rain snow mix and then ending as some light snow or flurries at that time. It doesn’t look to be a big event at this time and any accumulations look to remain rather light at this time. We’ll be able to fine tune this as we move through the weekend into next week. It will be slightly cooler on Wednesday with readings mainly in the 30s to near 40 for highs before rebounding again on Thursday to just below seasonal levels.
THROUGH NEXT WEEKEND: Another system looks to come through the state on Friday with some rain and or wintry mix at that time. Amounts from this storm look to be rather light at this point but we’ll keep watching this one as well in the coming days. Saturday and Sunday will be slightly cooler than seasonal levels with some sunshine possible Saturday and perhaps a few more clouds on Sunday.
EXTENDED PERIOD: The GFS continues to show a system around the 24th and 25th close to the state. This run shows it moving mainly south of the state which may just graze us with some light precipitation if any. We’ll watch to see if this trend continues or if it moves northward and affects more of the state. Colder air will filter into the state for a few days before temperatures rebound once again ahead of another storm that may move in around the 28th through the 30th. It’s still way too early to determine anything regarding this system, but we’ll be watching for any trends that may or may not form regarding this or any other storm during the period.
