Iowa Weather Report March 13th 2014

)

THE NEXT WEEK: The weather looks rather tranquil over the next week across the state according to the GFS. There will be some warmer readings moving back in today into tomorrow before a front comes back that will lower them slightly. This up and down pattern repeats itself the first of next week as well with some chance of some precipitation at that time which could be in the form of a wintry mix. Highs today and tomorrow will be in the 40s and 50s across the state with some locations seeing some 60s in the south and west.

EXTENDED PERIOD: The GFS is hinting at a significant storm beginning next Friday and lasting through the following weekend. This system if this were to occur could bring rain and perhaps some snow or wintry mix to the state. It’s still more than a week out but we’ll keep watching for trends in the coming days. Looking through the rest of the extended period, the GFS is showing readings are likely to stay below seasonal levels for the latter half of March with a somewhat active pattern as well. We’ll get more into that when the time comes.
