All of Iowa, Forecast, Winter Weather

Iowa Weather Report March 9th 2014

TWO WARM DAYS AHEAD: We will be seeing some of the warmest weather in several months with readings in the 40s, 50s and even 60s today and tomorrow. There will be plenty of sunshine around that will help to melt more of the snowpack. Some haze is possible in areas with heavier snow pack along with some fog as well during the morning hours especially in the northern and northeastern counties of the state.

ANOTHER STORM: A storm system will move into the state late Monday night and especially on Tuesday that may bring some rain and snow across the area. Amounts may reach a quarter to a half inch across parts of the state but in what precipitation type remains a question at this point. We will be seeing a changeover to all snow Tuesday night as the system moves away and brings colder but not overly cold weather back into the state. Wednesday will be similar to yesterday with some clouds early especially in the eastern and southeastern counties with sunshine around the rest of the day. Readings also look to be similar with 30s and lower 40s across the state. Thursday looks to bump the temperatures up to the upper 30s in the northeastern counties to possibly the lower 50s in the southwest with more sunshine around as well.

NEXT WEEKEND: A front comes through dry early on Friday bringing readings back down into the 30s and 40s across the state. This also looks to be the case on Saturday as well with increasing clouds as another storm moves in from the west late Saturday night into Next Sunday. This could bring some rain and or snow to the state on Sunday. It’s way too early to determine amounts at this time, but the GFS is showing the possibility of significant precipitation, we’ll just have to watch a few more days to get a better handle on it.

EXTENDED PERIOD: The extended period shows colder temperatures to start after the departing storm next Sunday. If any of the precipitation falls as snow this will likely keep temperatures down once again perhaps even into the 20s for highs in some areas. Readings look to moderate a bit toward the end of the period with a possible storm approaching from the west, but we still have plenty of time to watch that and other systems that may come and go from the model runs over the next couple of days.
