IT’S COLD AGAIN: The next three days of weather will be fairly simple and straightforward. It will be cold with skies being partly to mostly sunny each day. Highs will range from the single digits through the 20s each day across the state with the coldest readings in the snow pack areas of the northern half of the state. Lows will drop below zero for most of the same areas each night as well. Some record lows could be approached both Wednesday and Thursday morning as well.

THERE’S SNOW AGAIN: Another weather event we’ve seen too much of this winter is snow. But it is Iowa in wintertime so you have to expect some snow. We have two systems to worry about. One on Friday will move in from the west which will bring some snowfall to the state at that time. It is looking a little more robust on this run than previous runs, so the snowfall amounts could be a few inches but we’ll be able to pinpoint that down when we get a little closer to the event. The second system looks about what it did two days ago but it also looks more drawn as well. If this is correct and we’re not entirely that it is. We could see snow move into the state Saturday afternoon in the western counties and it may last through the day on Monday perhaps even into Tuesday morning. We still have plenty of time to watch this system and where there has been consistency in the idea of a winter storm this weekend. The severity of said storm for the state has been wavering over the last few days. We should have a better idea by tomorrow if not Thursday about what this system could bring and how much it may bring at that time.

GETTING FARTHER INTO MARCH: The GFS Model continues to show cold temperatures for at least the first few days of the month, with some moderation about two weeks out, but we haven’t seen much consistency this far out at this time, so we’ll just take a wait and see attitude as to when this cold spell is finally going to move out of the area.
