DVN: Hazardous Weather Outlook for Benton, Buchanan, Cedar, Clinton, Delaware, Des Moines, Dubuque, Henry, Iowa, Jackson, Jefferson, Johnson, Jones, Keokuk, Lee, Linn, Louisa, Muscatine, Scott, Van Buren and Washington Counties valid until 5:00 AM Tuesday – .A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW – AND WEATHER ADVISORIES FOR SNOW AND WINTERY MIXTURE OF FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET ARE IN EFFECT FOR THE AREA TODAY. PLEASE REFER TO THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WEATHER PRODUCT FOR MORE DETAILS. A WINTERY MIXTURE OF FREEZING RAIN – SNOW AND SLEET SPREADING UP TO THE HIGHWAY 30 CORRIDOR THIS MORNING WILL PRODUCE A QUICK GLAZE OF ICE BEFORE TURNING TO SNOW. THE FREEZING RAIN MAY LAST LONGER ALONG AND SOUTH OF THE HIGHWAY 34 CORRIDOR THROUGH AT LEAST 9 AM CST AND PRODUCE UP TO A TENTH OF AN INCH OF ICE GLAZE IN THOSE AREAS. SOME SLEET ACCUMULATIONS POSSIBLE AS WELL. THEN MOST OF THE AREA WILL TURN OVER TO ALL SNOW BY MID MORNING AND LAST INTO THE AFTERNOON. THE SNOW WILL BE HEAVY AT TIMES FALLING AT RATES UP TO 2″ AN HOUR AND REDUCING VISIBILITIES TO A QUARTER MILE OR LESS. THERE MAY EVEN BE THUNDER SNOW IN SOME LOCATIONS. THE SNOW IS THEN EXPECTED TO MOVE OUT OF THE AREA FROM WEST TO EAST BY LATE AFTERNOON. SPOTTER ACTIVATION WILL NOT BE NEEDED TODAY OR TONIGHT – HOWEVER SNOWFALL REPORTS OF AN INCH OR MORE WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
