THE NEW STORM: The next storm is likely ongoing as many of you read this as it’s moving through the state. Some sleet, freezing and snow will move across the state and will be to the east by later in the afternoon and early evening. Snowfall amounts of 3-6” will be possible mainly in the northern and northeastern counties of the state with lesser amounts to the south and west. Any icing is expected to be under a tenth of an inch but even this amount could cause some slick travel at times. Temperatures will vary across the state from the lower and middle 30s in the east to the lower 50s out west where the sun will break out and melt most of the snow and or ice that will fall during the morning hours.
THE REST OF THE WEEK: Tuesday and Wednesday will see mainly sunny skies with readings in the 30s and 40s both days. The next system moves in Wednesday night into Thursday. This could be another significant event that could bring freezing rain, sleet, snow, rain and perhaps an isolated thunderstorm in the far southeastern counties. It’s too early to determine what precipitation type will occur and when, but we’ll continue to watch it in the coming days. Colder air will move in behind the system which may drop readings back into the 20s and 30s for highs across the state on Friday. There could be some light snow or flurry activity of little significance Friday night into early Saturday morning.
ON INTO MARCH: Before we get into the month of March, the last few days of February look to be below seasonal levels for temperatures with a chance of some snow around the 25th with a system coming in from the northwest. Heading into the first few days of March, the GFS shows seasonal readings with some activity possible but no real trends developing at this point.
