All of Iowa

Welcome to November!

Blizzards, tornadoes, icestorms, cold snaps, clock switching, frantic shopping and Turkey bring about the month of November in Iowa. Blizzards and or snow storms are fairly common in November, but tornadoes are not. Only 3 years ago however, there was a tornado outbreak in Iowa that killed one person (In Stratford) and injured many others. This was also the same outbreak where the crazy man was taking video of the Woodward tornado that many people have seen on TV. That outbreak was the largest and furtherest north tornado outbreak to ever occur this late in the year. Will there be tornadoes this November? Given the forecast from the SPC in an earlier post, there’s a slight chance at that happening, but it’s too early to determine until it’s outlooked closer in. Thanksgiving falls on the 27th this year, with frantic shopping the next day on the 28th.

November Averages
November Averages

The average temperatures do fall quite a bit during the month from average highs in the 50s to mid 30s and lower 40s, with lows falling to the upper teens to middle 20s across the state.
Also daylight savings time ends later tonight as we go back to standard time (fall back), so the sun will now set around 5pm and rise around 6:30am. Average precipitation for the month is between 1.25 and 2 inches of liquid, I state that as liquid given that some of the precip this month is in the form of snow, sleet or ice.
