Rain Moving In

At just before 11:30pm Sunday, radar indicated some light rain moving into the NW part of Iowa north of Sioux City, some echos were also in east central Iowa (I think those aren’t reaching the ground ‘virga’) and a east to west line of heavier showers just south of the border in Missouri. Those heavier showers have been moving slowly northward over the last few hours. In any case Monday will be fairly wet and very chilly. A jacket and umbrella will be needed for Monday with highs in the 50s to lower to mid 60s. That’ll be about 15 degrees below average. The trend for cooler than average temperatures will continue for the next week.

IN THE TROPICS
Hurricane Ike made landfall this evening in eastern Cuba. The storm is expected to turn to the WNW and move into the Gulf by Tuesday night. Models are indicating a landfall sometime on Friday or early Saturday in Louisiana, very close to where Gustav made landfall. (Slightly west of that) As you may remember we were brushed by Gustav last week and with Ike possibly being further west, there needs to be an ongoing look out for how Ike will effect Iowa by early next week.
