Gusty Winds Humidity Returns

The Humidity is beginning its return to Iowa today on strong southerly winds. Winds are gusting over 30 mph in the western part of the state. There is a Wind Advisory for Lyon County in NW Iowa until 7pm this evening. Temperatures across the state were mainly in the 80s, heat indices were over 90 west of Interstate 35 with a heat index of 96 at Council Bluffs at 2pm. Heat indices may approach 100 in the western part of the state and 90 in the east today. Breezy conditions will continue tomorrow as well with temperatures 2-4 degrees warmer than today with mid 80s to lower 90s common across the state. There is still some uncertainty on whether Gustav’s moisture will move into Iowa on Tuesday-Thursday time frame. Later model runs and where Gustav makes landfall will make a better determination as to where the moisture will go.
