Afternoon Heat

A Heat advisory remains in effect for the southern half of Iowa mainly south of a Sioux City to Fort Dodge to Newton to Washington to Quad Cities line.
The eastern part of the state is quite pleasant having been under cloudiness most of the morning, while the western and central part of the state is scorching. Temperatures at 3pm are nearing 100 in a few places. Des Moines was at 95 with a heat index of 108. Shenandoah was at 99 with a heat index of 117! Dew points are in the 70s to low 80s in the western part of the state with Atlantic, Knoxville, Ankeny and Boone being at 81 with their dewpoint. This is a dangerous situation. Drink plenty of fluids and take plenty of breaks when outdoors.
