JANUARY LIKE: After a warm day on Sunday, it’s going to feel more like the month we’re currently in over the next week across the state. A disturbance will move into the state later today behind the cold front that moved through last night into this morning. This will bring with it some light snow across the area through at least Tuesday. Accumulations are likely to be around an inch or two with the heaviest totals likely over the northern and northeastern counties of the state. Slightly warmer air tries to return on Wednesday before another clipper system drops in for a visit on Thursday with more light snow and flurries at that time. Highs through the period will be in the 20s with lows in the single digits and teens. Some days will be warmer, others cooler but the average will be within that range.

WEEKEND: Another weak disturbance will drop in from the northwest on Saturday bringing some light snow or flurry activity as well. This will reinforce the cold air that will be taking hold over the eastern half of the country. Temperatures by this weekend will be in the teens east to near 30 out west with lows possibly going below zero once again mainly in the eastern and northeastern counties with lower teens in the west.

ONGOING THROUGH THE MONTH: Temperatures will moderate back to or perhaps above the freezing mark, however another blast from the north comes in on the 23rd. Another disturbance on its heels will bring some light snow across the state on the 24th and 25th, but the main story will be the temperatures dropping back into the teens and 20s for highs and lows in the single digits and teens. This would be near to slightly below seasonal levels for the end of January. Some models have indicated that this cold blast could be a bit stronger but it won’t be as big as the cold air we had last week though. Another system drops by on the 27th bringing with it more snow with another system of interest missing us to our south on the 28th which will need to be looked at on future model runs.
