THROUGH TO THE WEEKEND: Some interesting weather upcoming over the next couple of days as temperatures continue to warm from the deep freeze we had earlier in the week. Some flurries or light snow will be possible across mainly the southern counties of the state. Any accumulation will be no more than a dusting. Highs today will be in the single digits north to the upper teens down south. Some areas north of US Hwy 20 will see some sunshine intermixed with a few clouds. Tonight the flurry activity will begin to dissipate with readings dropping below zero once again north of US Hwy 30 while staying above to the south. Another system will come in from the south on Thursday that could scrape the southeastern counties with some light snow or flurries once again with little accumulation possible. Friday will be the big weather day with another system coming from the southwest. Temperatures will get above freezing across the southeastern half of the state. We could see some of the precipitation start out as some freezing drizzle, sleet or snow late Thursday night into Friday morning before transitioning to all rain or a wintry mix depending on where you are and what the ground temperature will be. Amounts of liquid could be significant with a half to 1 inch of liquid equivalent possible through early on Saturday. This could fall in the form of, rain, freezing rain, sleet, ice pellets or snow. Right now, we can’t tell how much of each kind of precipitation will fall in a certain area. We will continue to monitor this storm as it draws closer.

WEEKEND WEATHER: The storm will lift out of the state on Saturday with temperatures likely dropping back to seasonal levels in the 20s for highs and lows around 10 or so. Sunday however warm air moves back in ahead of a clipper system that will be coming in from the northwest. With the temperatures possibly getting above freezing once again, we may see rain or a wintry mix changing over to snow late Sunday night into Monday as the colder air moves through. The precipitation amounts with this storm do look lighter than the storm on Friday, but any threat of possible wintry precipitation will get our attention.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: Quick moving storms to begin next week with a warm up Monday ahead of a clipper system and colder air on Tuesday that could bring light snow or some flurries to the state. A clipper on the 16th will bring an end to the above seasonal temperatures as the flow turns back out of the north and northwest again. Moisture with this storm looks limited. Another clipper on the 18th could bring some flurry activity in our northeastern counties. The cold air looks to continue through the 20th before reading moderate through the 22nd before another frontal system comes through. Although all of this may change on the very next run, it is something to continue to look at.
