CHRISTMAS COLD: It will be a cold week for the holiday season. Highs will struggle today with readings in the single digits in most locations. Skies will be partly to mostly sunny, except in the northeastern counties where some clouds and some light snow will be possible. Any accumulation is expected to be light. Tonight lows will plummet well below zero, some places will reach the teens below zero. Readings will begin to warm Tuesday with highs in the teens and lower 20s. This will be ahead of another clipper that will move across the state Christmas Eve night into early on Christmas day. This may bring an inch or two across the state at that time with another push of colder air following thereafter.
MORE COLD AIR: Readings will moderate at the end of the week into Saturday ahead of another clipper system that may brush the air with a few flurries. The big story will be the much colder air that will follow in its wake. This will likely plunge temperatures back down below zero (possibly for even highs in some areas) Monday morning the 30th could be quite chilly. We’ll keep watch on that in coming days.
LOOKING OUT INTO 2014: Another weak clipper comes through on the 31st that may bring a few flurries mainly in the western counties. Another clipper looks to move through on New Year’s Day that will affect the northeastern counties with a little light snow. Temperatures then look to moderate once again ahead of another push of colder air on the 4th. The cold air looks to last through at least the 7th with modifying temperatures through the end of the period.
