AHEAD: There isn’t a whole lot of changes with this model run vs the previous few. A few weak disturbances will move by that may bring a chance of some light snow or flurries but nothing that will be of any issue at this time. The system at the end of the week Thursday into Friday will still bring some rain and of wintry mix to the area Thursday afternoon before switching over to light snow or flurries before the system moves off. Temperatures will then crash back into the teens to near 20 for highs (if not colder). One small change is that there won’t be any follow up snow from a second piece of energy which is now much farther south and will not affect the state at least at this point.
FARTHER AHEAD: This run of the GFS brings a bit more snow back into the area in the extended period. This includes some possible light snow around Christmas Eve into Christmas Day (which we’ve seen from time to time) along with another quick moving system late on the 26th into the 27th. Both of these system would be followed by cold blasts from the north which will drop the temperatures into the teens for highs and lows in the single digits above and below zero. This run does show some moderation in readings toward the end of the period which may bring readings above seasonal levels, but we don’t have much confidence in that solution at this time.
