ROLLER COASTER OF TEMPS: It will be a wild swing in the temperature department this week with warm readings to start followed by an arctic blast at the end that may see readings fall below zero once again. Today we’ll see more clouds around with a very slight chance at a sprinkle or flurry across the far northern counties of the state with a warm front that will be moving through. Highs today will range from the middle to upper 30s north to lower 50s south and west. The chances of precipitation continue mainly for our northern counties into Tuesday and early Wednesday as well with some rain snow mix there changing to mostly rain during the day Tuesday before switching back over to some snow Tuesday night into early Wednesday before ending. The southern half of the state may only get a little precipitation if any at all as most of the moisture will be along and north of the low pressure center that will be tracking from near Sioux City to Mankato to the Twin Cities. Some snowfall accumulation is possible mainly over the northern third of the state with amounts generally at or under an inch. Temperatures will free fall Wednesday with readings dropping into the teens to lower 20s for highs and lows near or perhaps below zero. One saving grace could be the lack of fresh snow with this system as most of that will fall just north of the state, so it could be worse.

JUST COLD: The cold weather will last through the end of the week into the weekend. There may be an increase in the cloudiness on Thursday as a system to our south may graze the far southern and southeastern counties of the state with some light snow, otherwise just some clouds will be possible at that time. Another shot at some light snow looks to come in Sunday into Sunday night with another wave moving along the southwesterly flow that will be setting up over the lower Mississippi River Valley into the Southeast. Amounts at this point look to be rather light.

DECK THE HALLS WITH SNOW: This run of the GFS does show some interesting weather during the extended period beginning with possible snow on the 10th through the 13th which could be significant if this is right. Another shot of cold air around the 17th could bring some more snow as well but this is likely to change.
