THE WEEK AHEAD: This weekend looks dry across the state with somewhat mild readings. A cold front will move through the state today but only clouds will be the main feature with this passage. Highs today will be in the upper 30s through the upper 40s from north to south. Sunday will feature slightly cooler readings by a few degrees with middle 30s north to lower and middle 40s south. The next system will move through the far northern counties of the state late Monday night into Tuesday with some rain and or snow at that time. Any precipitation looks to be light at this time, but we’ll have to continue to watch for any possible changes to that. Wednesday into Thursday could feature rain changing over to snow with very cold air following in the wake of the system, perhaps the coldest air we’ve seen in quite a while. Some models are suggesting sub-zero readings at night by the end of the week. This is something else we’ll have to keep watch of as well.
EXTENDED PERIOD: The colder than average temperatures look to continue into the extended period with some moderation toward seasonal averages in the second week of December. This model run doesn’t show a whole lot of precipitation around as well, which may change as we draw closer.
