SEE YOU SEPTEMBER: The end of September is upon us and October is just around the corner. What does that mean? It should mean temperatures cooling off but not in this case. Readings will be slowly increasing through the week ahead of a storm that will come at the end of the week. In the meantime there will be plenty of sunshine to go around with readings today in the 70s east to the lower 80s out west. There will be some breezy conditions as well and with the lower humidity could lead to some fire hazards especially in the northwestern counties of the state where a Fire Weather Watch has been issued today. The winds will die down on Tuesday with readings remaining in the upper 70s through the middle 80s across the state.

BIG TIME SYSTEM: The next system will gather across the plains and move toward the state at the end of the week. Rain showers and a few thunderstorms could be possible as early as Wednesday night into Thursday across the state with the bulk of the rainfall occurring Thursday night through early on Saturday morning. There are some indications that there may be some SEVERE WEATHER with this system specifically on Friday into Friday night but it’s a little early to tell at this time what modes could be possible with this. We’ll have a more detailed look at this system in the coming days but stay tuned nonetheless to the latest developments on this storm.

THEREAFTER: Temperatures will drop behind the system briefly, mainly on Saturday with some lingering clouds and perhaps a few showers in the northeastern counties but readings look to recover Sunday back into at least the 70s across most of the state. The winds look to turn southwesterly again on Monday of next week ahead of a system that will track well to our north across southern Canada. Farther out in the model run, the GFS shows another system that could bring some similar weather to this coming Friday around the 9th and 10th of October. Then the GFS goes crazy with a storm on the 12th and 13th. The 850mb Temperatures here will be below freezing. This would indicate that readings about 5000 feet off the ground will be below freezing. With precipitation shown, this could indicate that some cold rain or possibly a wintry mix or even wet snow flakes could be as close as two weeks away. This doesn’t mean run out and grab snow shovels, snow plows and snow blowers. This is in the extended period and is likely going to disappear on the very next run, but it’s systems like that one that we need to look out for because in October, anything is possible.
