CALM AND DRY: Outside of some very isolated showers in the northwestern counties today, it looks calm and tranquil for the next couple of days across the state. Readings will also slowly begin to warm as we head further along in the week. Highs today will be in the 70s in most places, perhaps a touch cooler in the north, with readings slowly warming into the upper 70s to lower 80s by the end of the week with mainly sunny to mostly sunny skies about.

WEEKEND WETNESS: A frontal system will approach the state late on Friday into Saturday with a threat of showers and thunderstorms at that time. This run is a bit slower with most of the rain staying along and west of Interstate 35 during the morning hours on Saturday and then moving through during the afternoon, evening into the overnight hours. The rain looks to clear out around sunrise Sunday in the eastern counties with clearing thereafter. Highs will be cooler on Saturday with the amount of clouds and rain around with slightly warmer readings Sunday especially in areas that get enough sunshine during the day.

HEADING OCTOBER’S WAY: The first couple days of the month look dry but then the cold front we’ve discussed over the last couple of days comes down from Canada on the 4th and 5th. The cold air isn’t as strong as the last two days and the GFS wants to cut the system off over the central part of the country. It does finally lift out on the 6th as the temperatures try to moderate but another push of cooler air toward the end of the period may bring possible frosty conditions to the state at that time. Things may still change but it’s evident the colder weather is not in the too distant future.
