MORE ACTIVE WEATHER AHEAD: To start out, a mainly sunny sky today with readings in the mid 60s to low 70s across the state. Winds will veer back to the south and moisture will return late on Tuesday with some showers and thunderstorms possible mainly in the afternoon into the overnight hours. Readings Tuesday will be in the 70s statewide. Rain showers and thunderstorm chances will continue off and on through Friday morning. Rainfall amounts through Friday could be in the range of 1-2″ with some areas getting more than that if you’re lucky. Readings will warm into the low 80s before cooling off by the weekend as high pressure moves in.

NEXT WEEK AND FORWARD: The GFS is showing a ridge over the southeastern half of the country with a significant trough over the west. This would put us in the battleground with several systems possibly coming through with chances of showers and thunderstorms. This looks to last between the 23rd and the 28th. It will not be an all day rain by any means, but significant amounts could be possible if this happens which would certainly help with the drought across the state. The last few days of the month into October look drier and more seasonal for the time being.
