COOLING OFF: The cold front will continue to move through the state today with limited chances of showers and thunderstorms along it, mainly along and south of Interstate 80. To the north partly to mostly sunny skies with readings in the upper 70s to mid 80s while the SE will still have readings pushing 90. The front will move through the state by tonight bringing with it much cooler conditions to the state at least by Thursday and Friday with readings dropping into the 70s to low 80s statewide with lows in the 40s to lower 50s.

WET WEEKEND: The GFS has brought back the chances of showers and thunderstorms for the weekend as a new system moves in along with another cold front that will move through on Sunday. This could mean a wet football game for Iowa vs Iowa State Saturday afternoon in Ames. Again, this could be like the last several systems where some areas may get doused with rain while others get nothing. It’ll be another wait and see on how widespread the chances will be this coming weekend. Nevertheless the chance is there with readings likely still in the 70s to lower 80s ahead of the system.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: High Pressure will build into the Great Lakes and Upper Midwest early next week bringing another shot of cooler weather to the area. As the high pressure moves off to the east at mid-week winds look to turn southerly once more and some moisture may return Wednesday of next week into the state perhaps from a possible tropical system that will be moving into Northern Mexico or South Texas (which if it were to be named would be Ingrid). A frontal system looks to move in next Thursday into Friday with more rain chances then as well. More rain chances are possible as well from the 22nd through the 26th but this could be gone on the next model run so don’t much faith into this right now.
