NICE WEATHER BEFORE RAIN: Iowa will see another nice day with temperatures in the upper 70’s to low 80’s across the state with a chance of rain beginning in the afternoon in some areas. A couple of lingering showers will be possible in the afternoon across the western half of the state with little to no accumulation anticipated. The bigger story will begin later tonight where a slight chance of severe weather exists over a large portion of the state. Rain should begin pushing into the state after 10pm and eventually reaching the eastern half after 1am. Strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible with large hail, damaging winds, and flash flooding the main threats. Rain should continue into the morning hours for the northwestern half of the state and early afternoon hours for the southeastern half.

MORE AND MORE RAIN CHANCES: Several shortwaves are anticipated through the weekend and all of next week. Models have been up, down, left, right, and zig-zagging with the placement and intensity of these shortwaves. Several disturbances are possible bringing additional showers and thunderstorms into the area. Although predictability of these shortwaves are low, the best placement would be across southern Iowa at this time. If this was the case, flash flooding and river flooding will again be brought up around the area. Stay tuned.

p168i — IMAGE: Precipitation over the Next Seven Days – Iowa will certainly be seeing some drought relief over the next week or so as rain continues to enter the forecast. Much of the state is currently in abnormally dry, or stage one drought.
