ANOTHER HOT ONE: More sunshine and heat and humidity today with readings well into the 90s with heat indices at or over 100 degrees. It will be slightly cooler at least over the northern and western counties of the state on Friday as a cold front will move across. This will bring a few showers and thunderstorms across the state beginning late tonight into Friday from northwest to southeast. The eastern and southern counties will have another hot and humid day Friday with readings into the 90s before the cold front passes in the afternoon into the evening hours.

WEEKEND INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK: High Pressure will nose into the Great Lakes which will bring cooler conditions to the state but the rain looks to return again Saturday night through possibly Tuesday with system that will be slow to move. This will bring repeated chances of showers and thunderstorms to the state which will be well received but unfortunately they look to occur during the beginning of RAGBRAI. There will be several chances during the ride from Council Bluffs at least through the stop in Des Moines on Tuesday night. Severe weather isn’t anticipated at this time, but we’ll keep monitoring for any changes to that.

FARTHER ALONG: The weather looks a bit better as we move further into next week with seasonal readings and some sunshine but another system may take a nab at the state next Friday into Saturday with some showers and storms then as well. Weather Pattern turns more seasonal as a ridge begins to develop off to our west as we begin the month of August but we’ll still have seasonal weather if the model run is to be correct.
