VIDEOS TO RETURN TOMORROW
DRY WEATHER EXPECTED: Outside the rain that fell yesterday across western and northern Iowa some of which was heavy in some areas north of Mason City. It looks dry for the time being across the state. There may be an isolated shower chance in western Iowa today and perhaps a popcorn shower Monday across the state but it’ll be few and far between with many areas staying dry. Temperatures will continue to warm slightly into this coming week with highs in the 80s to lower 90s with humid conditions.
CHANGE EXPECTED: The heat isn’t going to last as a front will sag into the state Friday bringing with it a chance of showers and thunderstorms to the state. This will be the next best organized chance of rainfall across the entire state. This according to the GFS may last through the weekend into early next week as the state becomes a battleground between the hot humid weather to our south and the cooler drier air over Canada and the Great Lakes. By this point any rainfall will be needed but any heavy amounts of rain such as what fell in Cerro Gordo, Worth and Winnebago counties yesterday is not. We’ll have to wait a day or so to get better perspectives on what rain will do receive.
EXTENDING OUT: Farther out, the pattern looks more typical of late July with some seasonal readings in the 80s and a few rounds of showers and thunderstorms. A ridge looks to develop once again out to our west with a trough digging through the Great Lakes. This will keep the heat away from the state and the chances of showers and storms continuing. This would be a good trend as any rain this time of year is great for the farmers and their crops.
