COLD WEEKEND: It will be a cold weekend by summer standards across the state with readings likely in the 70s today and perhaps mid to upper 70s approaching 80 Sunday. There is a threat of showers and thunderstorms across the state today, mainly in the eastern half to two thirds of the state but it will not be an all day rain by any means. There doesn’t look to be a threat of severe weather at this time, but with many people outdoors, be aware if a storm approaches your area. Rainfall amounts look to be a quarter inch or less but any thunderstorms that do form could drop some isolated heavier totals than that, but flash flooding isn’t likely.
INDEPENDENCE DAY WEEK: It still remains abnormally cool throughout next week with an upper level feature close by that may trigger a few afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms Tuesday through Independence day. Some of those storms could bring some gusty winds but severe weather doesn’t look likely at this time. Fireworks are likely to go off without any problem any night next week given that there are no storms nearby and or the ground isn’t terribly wet, otherwise a few delays are possible which may change later on.
EXTENDING OUT: The warm weather looks to return by the end of the week into next weekend as the wind turns southerly and temperatures begin to warm back into the 80s maybe a few lower 90s. The GFS shows another storm next weekend that may bring a bit better organized chance of some showers and thunderstorms to the state at that time. The weather looks active again through mid July with several pushes of cooler Canadian air butting up with the warm humid air. That would lead to more shower and thunderstorms chances during the period, but right not see no signs of any extreme heat similar to what the state went through last year.
