MORE RAIN POSSIBLE: A fluid situation continues across the area with showers and thunderstorms possible but where they’ll form and move is another story entirely. We should see some activity during the morning hours then a break followed by possible redevelopment this afternoon into the evening and overnight. Some of the storms could become strong to severe as the Storm Prediction Center has a slight risk of severe weather for the entire state of Iowa today. Tuesday will see a similar pattern but mainly over the northern and eastern half of the state as the western half begins to dry out. There is also a slight risk of severe weather in those areas Tuesday with an enhanced area in the northern and northeastern counties. The entire state should be clear of the rain and storms by early Wednesday morning. Any rain during this time, especially in the northern and northeastern counties of the state will exacerbate flooding that is already ongoing. Meanwhile southern and western Iowa could use some rain, we’ll see what happens.

NORTHWESTERLY FLOW: We’ll be under a northwesterly flow from mid-week through the next weekend. This will keep temperatures around average with plenty of sunshine around. A disturbance over the Great lakes may graze the northeastern counties late Friday night into Saturday morning with a few showers otherwise it looks dry through the weekend into the first part of the following week.

INDEPENDENCE DAY OUTLOOK: We’re still over a week out from the 4th of July Holiday, and the GFS has shown about everything from storms, to heat to in this run cool and somewhat rainy. Little confidence at this time with this run, but we’ll keep watching. There looks to be a storm possible right before the holiday time period around the 2nd and 3rd of July that may cut off over the Great Lakes leading to the possible showery weather.
