ACTIVE TIME: Several periods of showers and thunderstorms will be intertwined with several dry periods as well with some sunshine with warm and humid conditions. Highs today will be well into the 80s, with some low 90s possible in the western and southwestern counties of the state on Friday. Several complexes of showers and thunderstorms will form over the northern High Plains and sweep southeastward during the afternoon, evening and overnight hours and may make it into the state both tonight and again Friday night. Some of these storms could be severe with damaging winds and large hail being the main threats and more likely closer to the Minnesota border. This also looks to continue into the weekend as well with dry periods mainly during the day and stormy conditions during the overnight hours. The chances during the weekend are a bit less than the next two days but we’ll keep watching to see if that changes.

WARM AIR CONTINUES: The warmer air looks to stay around into next week as well before a system moves in at mid-week that could drop the readings slightly, but this looks to be short lived as a heat ridge will begin to strengthen across the southwest as we head toward the following weekend.

HEAT WAVE: The extended period through the first few days of July still looks quite warm and somewhat dry across the area. This would mean temperatures likely well into the 90s dependent on the amount of ground moisture we’ll have around at the time and plenty of sunshine. This trend has continued on several runs and it’s looking more likely that the 4th of July will be very warm, possibly downright hot. But we know that’s two weeks out and something may throw a wrench into the whole thinking.
