PERIODS OF STORMS FOR SOME: A complicated forecast over the next 36-48 hours across the state with a ridge beginning to take hold over the southern plains will be bringing much warmer air to the state with readings well into the 80s perhaps even a few lower 90s. Depending on how far north this warm air gets will set the stage for the chances of some showers and thunderstorms this evening into the overnight hours tonight across the northern parts of the state. The Storm Prediction Center has a slight risk of severe weather for mainly this evening into the overnight for the northern third of the state. Wednesday will see the storm encompass much of the state with rain chances ending early in the west and lasting through most of the day across the east. The Storm Prediction Center has a slight risk of severe weather for the far eastern counties of the state mainly early in the morning with any left over activity and then again in the early to mid afternoon for any storms that may fire before the storm departs to the east rather quickly. The far southern and southwestern counties may get spared little if any rainfall from this system. Wednesday will see readings back down into the 70s to mid 80s dependent on the amount of sunshine any one area sees.

MORE STORMY WEATHER: A high pressure will move into the region from Canada on Thursday bringing some cooler conditions to the state but not overly cold. Readings will still be at or just a hair below seasonal levels but I don’t think anyone is going to complain too much. What they may complain about is the next storm system moving in Friday into Saturday. This would be similar to the current storm that is coming in today. Periods of showers and thunderstorms but exactly where they’re going to fire or move through is still a bit up in the air at this point. It will be a situation with a frontal boundary moving back north across the state and where that front sets up will be where the storms develop and begin to move through. We’ll have to keep watch on that in the coming days.

SOMEWHAT ACTIVE: The GFS is showing some storm systems moving through the area heading into the extended period through the end of the month. Nothing too significant at this time but this could certainly change. Readings look to stay near seasonal levels but no big heat waves are foreseen at this time, but it is summer and anything can happen, including scorching heat that we dealt with last summer.
