The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma has posted an elevated risk of severe weather for the southwestern half of the state (enhanced risk across far SW Iowa) on Saturday as a low pressure system moves southeastward, bringing moisture into the region. Thunderstorms will be ongoing early in the day leading the way to an unstable atmosphere later in the afternoon. Another round of thunderstorms will develop in the afternoon to early evening across Nebraska near the low pressure center, and as it enters unstabalized air, aided by decent shear, a large hail and damaging wind threat will likely form. A further enhanced risk will be possible depending on how far a warm front across North Dakota and South Dakota will extend south. A greater threat of tornadoes will be possible with this scenario.
Another threat of severe weather is possible on Sunday but that threat is conditional on how long the storms from Saturday will last. If the storms from Saturday can leave the area by morning, another threat of large hail and damaging winds will exist. More information will be provided on that later on Friday and Saturday.
