Snowstorm Update (4/4/09)

Numerous Watches, Warnings are now in effect. A Blizzard Warning is now in effect for the following counties, Lyon, Osceola, Dickinson, Sioux, OBrien, Clay, Plymouth, Cherokee, Buena Vista, Woodbury and Ida from 6pm this evening until 1pm Sunday afternoon. A Blizzard Warning is also in effect for the following counties, Calhoun, Carroll, Cerro Gordo, Crawford, Emmet, Hancock, Humboldt, Kossuth, Palo Alto, Pocahontas, Sac, Webster, Winnebago, Worth and Wright that begins at 7pm this evening and is in effect until 7pm Sunday evening. A Blizzard Warning is also in effect for Monona County from 7pm this evening until 1pm Sunday afternoon. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 1am Sunday morning until 7pm Sunday evening for the following counties, Harrison, Shelby, Pottawattamie, Mills, Audubon, Black Hawk, Boone, Bremer, Butler, Franklin, Greene, Grundy, Guthrie, Hamilton and Hardin. A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from 7am until 7pm Sunday for the following counties, Adair, Adams, Cass, Dallas, Jasper, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Marshall, Polk, Poweshiek, Story, Tama, Union and Warren. A Winter Storm Watch is also in effect from 4am Sunday morning until 7am Monday morning for the following counties, Buchanan, Delaware, Dubuque, Benton, Linn, Jones, Jackson, Iowa, Johnson, Cedar and Clinton. Snowfall accumulations over 6 inches are likely north of a line from Missouri Valley to Ames to Dubuque. 3-5 inches roughly north of a Sidney to Osceola to Quad Cities line with 1-3 to the south.
If that wasn’t enough, there is also a risk of Severe Weather today and tonight for part of southern Iowa! Hail is the main threat with this event. At Midday some rain was falling in northern Iowa and also in SW Iowa. Temperatures right now are not conducive for snow with temperatures in most of Iowa in the 40s and 50s, with only NW Iowa in the 30s. This will likely be one of the biggest snowstorms of the year.
