Blizzard Watch Issued

The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard watch effective at 7pm Saturday night and in effect until 1pm Sunday afternoon for Monona County. The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has also issued a Blizzard watch effective at 7pm Saturday night and in effect until 1pm Sunday afternoon for the following counties, Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Ida, OBrien, Osceola, Lyon and Sioux. The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a Blizzard Watch which goes into effect at 7pm Saturday night and is effective until 7pm Sunday night for the following counties, Calhoun, Crawford, Emmet, Humboldt, Kossuth, Palo Alto, Pocahontas and Sac.

A WIDE BAND OF MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOWFALL IS ANTICIPATED TO
DEVELOP OVER NORTHWEST IOWA BY LATE SATURDAY AND CONTINUE INTO SUNDAY. A WIDE SWATH OF SIX PLUS INCHES OF SNOW…WITH A BAND OF 8 TO 12 INCHES…CAN BE EXPECTED OVER THE WATCH AREA. BLIZZARD LIKE CONDITIONS ARE LIKELY TO DEVELOP BY LATE SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY AS NORTHERLY WINDS INCREASE TO 30 TO 40 MPH…WITH GUSTS TO NEAR 50 MPH FOR A TIME. THESE WINDS WILL RESULT IN THE POTENTIAL FOR WHITEOUT CONDITIONS.
