SUNNY SATURDAY: It will the calm before the storm today with plenty of sunshine around. There will be a few cloud intermixed as well. Temperatures will be warm with readings well into the 80s with some breezy conditions out of the south at about 15-25mph with some higher gusts possible. There is a slight risk of severe weather for western Iowa today but this will be mainly late evening into the overnight hours. The main threats would be from large hail and damaging straight line winds. This would likely occur from thunderstorms that fire farther west over Nebraska during the afternoon hours. This will need to be watched closely.

SEVERE SUNDAY: There is potential for widespread severe weather Sunday across the state with all modes of severe weather possible including some tornadoes. There is a slight risk of severe weather for the entire state of Iowa Sunday. A moderate risk is out farther to the southwest over MO, KS and OK. The main window of activity looks to take place during the afternoon and evening hours between 3pm-10pm, although severe weather may continue into the overnight but mainly as a damaging wind and hail threat at that time. The storm system could spark more severe weather Monday across the far southeastern counties of the state as well with all modes possible once again, but the main threat looks to stay just to our south across MO, but we’ll have to keep watch to see if anything changes. We will get dry slotted late Monday through Wednesday as the storm just takes its time moving away with the threat of a few showers around from time to time but it won’t be an all day deal and we could get some peaks of sunshine here and there. Changes are still possible as this is a fluid situation. Keep watching the blog for any changes over the next 24-36 hours.

REST OF WEEK INTO MEMORIAL DAY: The low pressure center slowly moves out of the area the middle of the week with quieter and calmer conditions last through the Memorial Day Weekend. Right now Memorial Day looks ok with sunshine and seasonal readings with high pressure overhead and a ridge in place keeping rain away.
