HEATING UP: Readings will be heading upward over the next 48 hours across the state with possibly the hottest weather of the year so far coming on Tuesday. Today we’ll see partly to mostly sunny skies with readings in the 60s east to lower to middle 80s west. Tuesday will see a jump into the 80s to lower to mid 90s across the state from east to west. We could see heat indices well into the 90s across the area, but breezy conditions will mix the air a bit. A cold front will move into the state late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning with a slight chance of a shower or storm. The chance looks to be slight at this time (we did not include it in our 48 hour forecast for Tuesday night). Temperatures look to drop into the 70s for Wednesday.

LATE WEEK STORM: Thursday will be seasonal with temperatures in the 70s with partly to mostly sunny skies. Thursday night into Friday, the cold front south of the state is forecast to retreat back northward across the state as a storm system approaches the Central Plains. Showers and thunderstorms will be possible Friday across the state as the front moves back through. The GFS is showing a possible break in the activity during the morning into early afternoon hours Saturday before the cold front moves in from the west slowly increasing the chances once again. This looks to last through Sunday. Severe weather is possible but it’s still too early to determine that at this time given model differences. Decent rainfall amounts of at least an inch or more are possible as well.

INTO LATE MAY: The GFS does show some seasonal conditions heading toward the Memorial Day weekend. There is a possible storm that could bring some shower and thunderstorm activity prior to and around the holiday weekend. Still could see some changes over the next few days regarding the holiday weekend in two weeks time.
