NWS Omaha Issues Winter Storm Watch

The National Weather Service in Omaha has issued a Winter Storm Watch which will go into effect at 6am Friday and will be in effect until Midnight Saturday morning for the following counties in Iowa, Monona, Harrison, Shelby, Pottawattamie, Mills, Montgomery, Fremont and Page.

SNOW…HEAVY AT TIMES…SHOULD BEGIN TO OVERSPREAD THE WATCH AREA
FRIDAY MORNING AND LAST THROUGH EARLY FRIDAY EVENING BEFORE
TAPERING TO FLURRIES LATER FRIDAY EVENING. SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS
OF 5 TO 10 INCHES ARE EXPECTED ACROSS A LARGE PORTION OF THE WATCH
AREA…WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE. IN ADDITION…TO THE
SNOW…NORTHEAST WINDS OF 15 TO 30 MPH WOULD CAUSE AREAS OF
BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW RESULTING IN REDUCED VISIBILITIES AND
HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS.

A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT
SNOW…SLEET…OR ICE ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL.
CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS.

These watches will likely be expanded eastward later this afternoon and tonight.
