SYSTEM SERIES: A plethora of precipitation, a swarm of storms, and perhaps a bit of snow. First off today Sunday will be mainly dry for the first part of the day with partly to mostly sunny skies. Temperatures today will be a few degrees cooler than on Saturday with readings in the 50s to middle 60s. Clouds will be increasing once again however by late in the day as a warm front to our south slowly begins to work its way northward. Showers and thunderstorms will be possible by Sunday night over the state with some moderate to heavy rainfall possible. A slight break Monday will be brief before more showers and storms return by the afternoon into the evening and overnight hours. Tuesday looks wet as well as the storm moves along the Iowa Missouri border (or perhaps a little further south according to other models) Severe weather looks to stay out of the state at this time however, any slight change could bring severe weather to the state at any time between late today and Tuesday (especially over the southern counties and most likely due to hail) Wednesday will see the rain beginning to wane as cold air begins to move in, some rain snow mix could be possible with perhaps all snow over the northern counties, however accumulations aren’t likely due to the warm ground, and the amount of rain that is likely to have fallen between now and Wednesday, although the GFS has decent accumulations across SD and MN for those heading in that direction. Amounts with this system could be wide ranging from an inch to as much as three inches depending on the amount of thunderstorms over the period of time. A few lingering sprinkles or flurries early Thursday will clear out but skies may remain mostly cloudy with partial clearing late from west to east. Highs by this time will be down into the 40s to near 50s and lows in the 20s and 30s.

NEXT WEEKEND: The sun returns as does warmer temperatures heading toward next weekend but also the chance of some showers again Saturday as a warm front moves through. Readings will be back into the 50s and 60s. Saturday afternoon into evening, the rain overspreads the state. Some thunderstorms could be possible as well. Severe weather doesn’t look likely but we’ll know more about that in a few more days if it does come to pass. Precipitation amounts could be significant again with at least a half to three quarters of an inch by Sunday evening at least.

YOUR RAIN PARADE: As the system next Sunday moves out, the next one makes an appearance Monday (15th) with more showers and thunderstorms. This one lasts until Wednesday (17th) with a quick shot of cooler air behind that system. A slight chance of some rain around the 20th, with another storm waiting in the wings around the 22nd into the 23rd. This of course will all change in future model runs.
