SNOWY SPRING SUNDAY: Snow will continue over much of the state today with the heaviest snow likely falling near the Iowa Missouri border. The heaviest snow band will be across central Missouri into Central Illinois around Columbia to near St Louis to Springfield and Decatur on eastward. Amounts here will range from around an inch or so across the northern counties, about 2 or so between US 20 and IA 92 to around 3-5″ south of there. The snow is expected to be the heavy wet variety and is expected to compact leading to lesser snow depths than actual snowfall. Road Conditions will be hazardous especially in the southern counties into Missouri and Illinois today and tonight. Snow will taper off during the overnight hours Sunday into Monday with only a few scattered flurries or snow showers possible during the day Monday. It will remain below average for this time of year with readings in the 30s through Tuesday.
WARMING UP TO END MONTH: Temperatures are likely to head upward this week as we near the end of the month. This will easily melt the snow that is falling today across the state. Readings may eclipse 40 in the southwestern counties of the state Tuesday and all but the far northeastern counties by Wednesday. Some areas may hit 50 by Thursday in the south and western counties of the state. A weak disturbance Wednesday night into Thursday may get kick off a few snow showers or flurries but shouldn’t amount to a lot.
MORE GFS WINTER FUN: The GFS known for having wild swings past 7 days out has a real whopper of a storm moving through around the 2nd-4th of April, which has been seen on the models over the last several days. This would bring some rain and perhaps even thunderstorms if there’s enough warm air around.
