MARCHING THROUGH A SNOWY IOWAY: It may be springtime, but winter wonderland is going to greet some across the southern and eastern counties of the state this coming weekend with some accumulating snow. The GFS still is showing the center of the storm well to the south and southeast of the state but some precipitation is likely to make it into the state with the southern and eastern counties getting the heaviest of the precipitation.

The heaviest of the snow however is expected to stay along and 50 or so miles either side of a line from Harrisonville MO to Moberly MO to Quincy IL/Hannibal MO.
00z NAM at 7am Sunday
00z NAM at 7am Sunday
The NAM is virtually on the same path with the heaviest snow as well, perhaps about 10-20 miles farther south but it too brings some decent snows into the southern tier of counties Saturday night into Sunday also. The GFS is a little more robust with the snow covering all of the state albeit mostly flurries or light snow showers, most of the accumulating snow should stay along and south of an Omaha to Des Moines to Iowa City to Savanna IL line where up to 3-5″ is possible especially in areas closer to the Missouri state line.

NEXT WEEK IT’S COLD: Doesn’t look like the colder than average temperatures are going anywhere anytime soon with the NAO and AO remaining negative through the end of the month. A weak disturbance Wednesday and Thursday could kick up a few flurries or snow showers but nothing too significant at this time. Warmer air does start to return around the end of the month with another storm moving in. This one too looks to move to our south and could bring some cold rain perhaps mixed with snow or sleet to the area. It does look somewhat warmer heading into April but we still have plenty of time for that to change as well.
