Iowa Forecast Discussion March 20th 2013

NO VIDEOS UNTIL MONDAY

CALM BUT COLD: It may say Spring arrived this morning at 6:02am, but somebody forgot to tell Mother Nature, readings are going to be well below average for the next several days with high pressure nearby and readings stuck in the 20s and 30s for highs with lows in the single digits and teens. There will be a slow warm up toward the end of the week but likely only into the 30s.

WEEKEND STORM: The GFS still bullish with a snow storm on Saturday into Sunday across the state. Many of the other models are trending to lighter snows if any at all with most of the activity down in MO and Central IL.032013
032013b We will have to monitor the storm carefully to see what becomes of it, but right now it’s looking for like most of the snowy weather will stay confined into MO, IL and perhaps southern Iowa at this time, things are still very fluid at this time and drastic changes could occur over the next 24-48 hours.

CHANGE OF PACE: The GFS is now suggesting the last week of March into early April may be not as active as it had been showing over the last few days, however this is still a ways out and may change back again. It also looks to stay at or below average regarding temperatures as the NAO and AO are still looking to stay negative for at least the next two weeks. nao
It still looks as if we’ll keep some chance of precipitation here and there but nothing overly heavy and nothing of any significance at this time.
