More Record Cold

Another morning of bitter cold across the state. Burlington, Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, Ottumwa, Waterloo have tied or set new records for the date. Burlington fell to -21° which broke the previous record of -20° in 1977. Cedar Rapids for the third straight day broke another record dropping to -28° which blew away the previous record of -23° in 1982. Dubuque tied their record with -30°. That also ties the all time record low for Dubuque. Ottumwa fell to -20° which broke the previous record set in 1977. Waterloo fell to a bone chilling -34°. Not only was that a new record low for the date, it also set the new all time January low and tied the all time low for Waterloo. One record was kept throughout this cold snap, the all time state low of -47° last set on February 3rd, 1996 at Elkader has yet to be reached, but a Co-Op observer in Coggon in northern Linn County did report a low this morning of -40°
