STORM EARLY NEXT WEEK: Prior to the storm arrival early next week, today we’ll see increasing clouds from the west with highs today in the 20s to lower 30s. Light snow will break out in western Iowa Monday morning but isn’t expected to be particularly heavy. The snow will decrease Monday night as the storm begins moving NE out of OK into Northwestern AR. Snow will begin again in the southern counties by early Tuesday morning and move northward to cover all but the western third of the state. The heaviest snow is likely going to be occurring in the eastern and southeastern counties of the state. Several inches of snow are possible with this system in the southern, eastern and southeastern counties of the state but many of the models have been inconsistent with this at this time. One thing is for certain, that KS and northern Oklahoma is likely going to get a lot of snow, perhaps a foot or more there. Watches, warnings and advisories may be needed for the southeastern part of the state with this storm system. More specifics will be forthcoming later today when we can get a better handle with this system.

LATER IN THE WEEK: As the backwash clouds and snow showers move off to the east with this storm system, temperatures are expected to remain at or below average through next weekend into the first week of March. Don’t see any storm systems after this one in the next week but this may change as we’ll be under a northwesterly flow coming out of Canada for the foreseeable future.

BIG CHANGE?: The GFS has done a 180 on us two weeks out, but this is expected in the land of voo-doo. The stormy weather that was once on the models has been replaced by some rain and snow and a plunge of arctic weather around the middle of the month including a 1048mb High. This would bring temperatures down into the teens and 20s for highs and lows in the single digits if this panned out. We have plenty of time to look at this though and plenty of time for this to change as well.
