WINDS ARE BLOWING: Strong gusty winds will begin to subside today across the state. Some wraparound moisture may squeeze out some flurries or snow showers today across the northern and northeastern counties of the state. Highs today will be set early in the day with 20s and 30s with falling temperatures throughout the day. Lows tonight will drop into the teens to lower 20s across the area with slowly clearing skies. Tuesday will bring the sun back and readings will bump back into the 30s and lower 40s across the state (mainly due to most of the snow cover melting over the last few days)

COLD DUMP OF AIR: The next shot of cold air will come Thursday with a clipper system that will sweep across the state. Very little moisture will be associated with this system thus clouds and perhaps a few flurries or light snow showers will be possible mainly in the northern counties of the state. Friday and Saturday will likely see highs only in the 20s perhaps even upper teens in some areas. Lows will be in the single digits and lower teens.

BIG BAD NASTY TWINS: Yesterday we showed you a big bad nasty storm at the end of the model run (on the 25th of February). Today’s run shows two storms in voo-doo land (beyond 7 days) the first of which may effect us a week from today into Tuesday. The first storm if it pans out, would bring us gulf moisture overriding cold air at the surface. The center of the storm would move from Childress TX to Kankakee Illinois putting Iowa on the cold snowy side. It’s way too early to determine precipitation type and or amount but it is something we will have to monitor in coming days. Big Bad Nasty #2 is still on the board today. This one has more warm air involved with it so some rain, wintry mix and snow could occur if this happened. Again this is still two weeks out and may change. One thing is for sure, the weather pattern looks to get more active in the latter half of February.
