SNOW AND COLD: The daylight hours will be calm with a few peaks of sun here and there but by the mid afternoon hours clouds will be increasing once again as another disturbance approaches from the northwest. This one will target the northeastern counties of the state with the heaviest snows, possibly an inch or two there with a dusting to half inch elsewhere outside SW Iowa. Temperatures will remain cool but not overly cold as we saw the other morning. Highs in the teens and 20s northeast to 30s south and west.

END OF WEEK SYSTEM: We have to keep a watch on this storm by the end of the week into the following weekend. With the snow on the ground (even with a few places seeing some melting this week), we could have some issues with some freezing rain, sleet, snow or rain as warm air surges into the state from the south ahead of the storm system. It’s way too early to determine amounts or precipitation type at this time, but it looks like it could get quite messy Friday into Saturday and perhaps next Sunday across the state and region. Beyond that cold air looks to filter back into the state toward the middle of the month. That may bring temperatures back into the teens to near 20 for highs and lows in the single digits once again.
