BITTER COLD: The memories of the warm weather a few days ago are long since gone. In its place another shot of bitterly cold air that will keep temperatures cold for the next few days. Highs today will be in the single digits and teens across the state with a few flurries around intermixed with some partly sunny skies. Tonight however, temperatures take a nose dive. Subzero readings will be common across the entire state, with the northern counties and areas with the heaviest snow pack seeing readings in the teens below zero. Friday will see warm air trying to come back with highs in the 20s in the western counties but still in the single digits and teens in the east.
STAYING CALM: Outside a few snow showers that may pass through the state late Friday night into Saturday, it will stay dry and calm over the state heading into the weekend and the first part of next week. Temperatures will be nearing seasonal levels next week with highs in the 20s to near 30 and lows in the single digits and teens above zero.
NEXT STORM TO WATCH: GFS is showing a system toward the end of middle to end of next week that could bring the next best chance of some widespread precipitation. This will be complicated given the snow pack currently on the ground and warm air that will be overriding it. This could be a recipe for some rain snow mix or freezing rain again. This is still a week out and is likely to change on future model runs. It’s something we’ll have to keep an eye on over the next couple of days.
